Light, Language of Belovedness

There was once someone, who said such amazing things, and did such wonderful things, people followed him.   One day, they just had to ask, “Who are you?” And he said, “I am the light”. (Godly Play Volume 3)

We say this each Sunday as we light the Christ candle.

We are always talking about the light.  Even in the deep purple of Lent as we creep through the heavy moments with our soft candles, we know light wedded to darkness.

And now in Epiphany Season, the light is gently riotous.  A wild star streaks though our skies; it will not be contained.  Light sparkles on the waters that cover the One who goes down under them in baptism and light is the language spoken in transfiguration.  Light is this season’s language of belovedness.

Look, just here in this quiet place we see it; the hem of the light just passed under the dark tree.

Light, the language of belovedness, and its call to you.
