A Blessing for Christmas Ornaments

Holy One
Over these ornaments we invoke blessing

The blessing of love and of memory
Of laughter and of loneliness
The blessing of joy
The blessing of small hands with eager fingers
Who crafted paper wonders
and of skilled hands
that stitched and shaped reminders of their care.

We invoke blessing,
through these fragile, lovely things
reminders of our fragile, lovely lives
and of You whose life is mingled with our own.

Through these small things
Holy One,
We invoke blessing.

May it be carried through these ornaments
and through our stories,
shining or rough,
into our homes and hearts this Christmas.

About Catherine Smith

A retired minister with the United Church of Canada I’ve grown up in church, been ordained and served communities that are small or in transition. I’ve seen firsthand just how powerful these experiences can be in helping to foster meaningful connections with others and the Other, the mystery that holds us all. My greatest hope is that my writing and this website will help you live well in the big questions that face all of us in this beautiful, aching world.
