A Hymn for Palm Sunday

We Glimpse, O Love, Your Hidden Way

Ride on ride on O holy, longing Lord.
Below your feet our coats we lay.
Above your head the branches wave.
We glimpse, O Love, your hidden way.

Ride on ride on O steadfast, sorrowing King,
processing through our scattered aims.
And mounted low, close to our hearts,
a lingering trace of hope impart.

Ride on, ride on O vivid, lonely One.
Ride through the clamour of the day.
And when the silence rises new
draw us more deeply into You.

About Catherine Smith

A retired minister with the United Church of Canada I’ve grown up in church, been ordained and served communities that are small or in transition. I’ve seen firsthand just how powerful these experiences can be in helping to foster meaningful connections with others and the Other, the mystery that holds us all. My greatest hope is that my writing and this website will help you live well in the big questions that face all of us in this beautiful, aching world.

I can’t believe I have never heard this tune! When I first glanced I thought it was the tune to Ride On In Majesty, but the words in the first line didn’t fit so I YouTubed it. What a beautiful hymn, and thank you for writing these new lyrics for it, Catherine. Palm Sunday Blessings!

I love this tune too, Kerry. There’s a poignancy about it that fits the season. Thank you for letting me know you’ve listened with these words in mind. Palm Sunday Blessings to you too and the graces of Holy Week.
