My soul longs for you . . .

In these days of Coronavirus, we know about unknowing.  We know about not knowing what comes next, we are familiar with the strange open space when our plans have been erased.

We know about this too in our own lives when someone we love or a dream we held close seem to be gone and still the world goes on. We know about emptiness.  Holy Saturday is a day when our hearts go out to all those who live in this emptiness, for a day, for a season or for their lifetime, their possibilities deadened by the need of empires and people who see only themselves.

This Holy Saturday is a day for being instructed by emptiness and brought into empathy.  We feel this morning with the disciples who can only see that the one they loved is gone.  We feel their hearts in ours, not in judgement but in compassion.

“let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning
For in you I put my trust.    Psalm 143:8
